When you become a mom, you start to understand your own a little bit more. You (hopefully) recognize that the strange things that sometimes come out of her mouth really are said with your best interest at heart.
I am seven weeks pregnant. I should be about five months along by my sister’s wedding in October. Because this is my second baby, I’m showing much earlier. It’s true that five minutes after you find out that you’re pregnant, you look about five months pregnant! Anyway, I have to have my dress made for the wedding so I am waiting until the month before as I keep growing and won’t know what size I’ll be until then. My mom said, “Don’t worry. By then you’ll be skinny from all the vomiting.”
It’s true that when I was pregnant with L, I lost 15 pounds from all the pregnancy sickness but it’s funny to hear it expressed that way from my mom. Oh well. It’s not as bad as the time she said to me, “Don’t get defensive. Lose weight.”
Like I said, they mean well. Then you take a moment and hope you never say such things to your child. :)
